The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, International Aid organizations, and the International Land and Water Development Organization jointly established the Durban Secretariat, referred to as IIROSA/IWSDO Durban Secretariat, in Durban, South Africa, on November 7, 2017.

Main functions of the Secretariat:

To undertake the implementation of projects related to human, animal, plant, microorganism and other living organisms, as well as water, sunlight, air, soil and other living sources, such as by United Nations agencies and international foundations;

Undertake meetings on life science and technology;

To assist the International Center for Soil and Water Research in evaluating life science academicians, water science academicians, soil science academicians, sunshine science academicians, air science academicians, etc. once every 7 years;

To undertake relevant public welfare assistance projects.
